It's so exciting to know that Winter Recess is two and a half week away! We still have so much learning to do! This week, we have the Book Fair (today after 2:45) and the Magic Forest Individual Class Concert (on Friday at 8:30).
Today is Tuesday and we had Studio in a School! We got to use special glass-handled paintbrushes as we experimented with making thin and thick lines using paint and water. Special thanks to KH's mom for coming in to help during our first day of painting!
We hear the story 2 times, retell it to our partner, and then we retell it to the class. Then we show our thinking. We make sure our thinking MATCHES the story. After we work on our sketches, we then think about the question. Then we have more time to show our thinking and revise our sketch.
Today's question was about 3 children who went to the park. One saw 3 birds on a tree. The 2nd saw 2 dogs being walked. The 3rd child saw 3 squirrels in a bush. After taking a few minutes to sketch, we reread the story and listened to the question - How many animals are there? After this, we discussed the different number sentences that we thought of that matched our sketch:
(3+3 = 6) 6 + 2 = 8
3 + 3 + 2 = 8
3 + 2 + 3 = 8 animals
Notice that the last one included the unit. That's important to discuss as well.
- Start with a capital letter
- Use lowercase letters for the rest of the sentence
- Make sure Word Wall Words are spelled correctly
- End sentences with punctuation (. ! ?)
- Our pictures match our words
- The pictures are detailed
Continue to work with your child with this at home.
The Winter Concert is on Friday, December 23rd. A schedule will be finalized that week. Hope to see you then!
Love,
Ms. Liang
