It's already the tenth day of school! September is full of anxiety and wonder. September is also full of paperwork - we know it's a lot! It's vital that everything is filled out as soon as possible if you haven't turned it in already. (Keep in mind that in addition to all the other school papers, a school lunch application must also be filled out. Click here for the link.)
On Saturday, there are some museums offering free admission with your name and e-mail. You just need to pre-register. Head over to Smithsonian Mag for more information.
September also means it's time for our first Scholastic Reading Club book orders! (Two students have already submitted orders!) Our class code is M8R23. If you need help accessing it, let me know and I'll do my best to help.
Next week, first graders will get their first homework packet! We will be sending home one die for each child to keep at home. It will be used throughout the year for various math games.
Over the next few weeks, I will be continuing to assess students to determine their reading levels and which skills we will be working on during Reading Workshop and Guided Reading. I will send out Raz-Kids (a website where students can access free texts) login information soon.
Be sure to go through and empty the blue communication folder on a daily basis. (It's also easier for the children to carry their backpacks that way!) If you haven't already, be sure to sign up for Remind! Refer to the previous entry for directions.
If you ever need to reach me, you may do so through notes in their blue folders, messages via Remind, or e-mail.
Lastly, thank you to those parents who stayed after-school with their children so that I could assess. I sincerely appreciate it!
Cheers,
Shirley (Ms. Liang)
