The weather has been brisk and chilly! Keep the gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves handy!
This week, we have been doing a lot of work with doubles and finding 5 on a math rack.
Click here to go to a website with a virtual math rack. You can click and drag the math rack and ask your child:
- What do you see?
- How many are there?
- How do you know?
There is a refresh button on the bottom left hand corner.
The -/+ button is to add a row. We are only working with 2 rows. We are working on numbers up to 20.
The third icon, which looks like 2 dots and a box, is to cover up part of the math rack. You don't need to worry about this.
Encourage them to name strategies:
"I found 5!"
"I found 10!"
"I saw doubles!"
"I saw doubles plus 1!"
We are working on naming our strategies and seeing how we can quickly see numbers.
They also have an app in the Apple store!
Make sure your child is reading every day to help them sustain and practice their reading skills.
